On September 26, 2026, I officially began pursuing my Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) at Bulacan State University, turning a long-held aspiration into another meaningful milestone in my academic and professional journey. What began with uncertainty, self-doubt, and the encouragement of people who believed in me has become an opportunity to grow as a lifelong learner, strengthen my capabilities as an educator, and pursue knowledge that I hope to share with others.
Knowledge Is Power, and Education Opens Doors
“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” — Kofi Annan
These powerful words have taken on a deeper meaning as I begin another important chapter of my life.
On September 26, 2026, I officially enrolled in the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program at Bulacan State University (BulSU).
Pursuing a master’s degree is something I have long hoped and prayed for. As someone who recently entered the teaching profession, I have always believed that learning should never end with earning a bachelor’s degree or securing a professional position.
Yet, despite how much I wanted this opportunity, I must admit that taking this next step came with excitement, uncertainty, and a fair amount of self-doubt.
Am I ready for graduate school? Am I capable of meeting its academic demands? Can I balance the responsibilities of being an instructor while becoming a student once again?
These questions have crossed my mind countless times.
There were moments when I wondered whether I had enough knowledge, experience, and confidence to pursue this degree. Although I knew that graduate education was something I genuinely wanted, a part of me continued to question whether I was truly prepared for the challenges ahead.
But I am slowly learning that we do not always have to feel completely ready before taking the next step toward our dreams. Sometimes, the courage to begin is what allows us to discover how capable we can become.
From Uncertainty to Taking the First Step
One of the greatest blessings throughout this journey has been the people who encouraged me to believe in my potential, especially during moments when I struggled to believe in myself.
I am deeply grateful to my family and fellow educators for continuously encouraging me to pursue graduate studies and challenge myself beyond what was familiar.
Their words of encouragement reminded me that opportunities for growth often require us to step outside our comfort zones, accept uncertainty, and trust that we can learn along the way.
With their support, I finally gathered the courage to take the Graduate School Admission Test on September 13, 2026.
As expected, the examination was challenging. It tested not only my knowledge and preparation but also my confidence in my ability to pursue graduate-level education.
Despite the difficulty and the doubts I carried with me, I persevered.
And I passed!
That moment became a meaningful personal achievement. More than passing an admission examination, it reminded me that sometimes, the limitations we imagine for ourselves are greater than the challenges we actually face.
It also gave me another reason to appreciate the people who encouraged me to take this opportunity. Without their support, I might have allowed my hesitation to prevent me from even trying.
Looking back, I realize that one of the most important accomplishments was not simply passing the examination or completing my enrollment. It was finding the courage to pursue something meaningful despite not knowing exactly what awaited me.
I Cannot Share What I Do Not Have
One of my strongest motivations for pursuing graduate studies comes from a simple belief that continues to influence how I approach my responsibilities as an educator:
“I cannot share what I do not have. To become someone who inspires learning, I must first remain someone who is willing to learn.”
As an instructor, I recognize that my responsibility to my students goes beyond delivering lectures, discussing theories, and assessing academic performance.
Teaching requires continuous preparation, professional competence, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to providing students with relevant and meaningful learning experiences.
Technology is constantly evolving. New developments, emerging practices, and changing industry expectations continuously reshape the knowledge and competencies required of Information Technology and Information Systems professionals.
Because of this, I believe that an educator must never stop being a learner.
I cannot expect my students to embrace continuous learning if I am unwilling to pursue it myself. I cannot confidently guide them toward professional growth without also making the effort to strengthen my own knowledge and abilities.
This is one of the reasons I chose to pursue the MSIT program at Bulacan State University.
I have high hopes that this academic journey will help me deepen my understanding of Information Technology, strengthen my technical and research competencies, and broaden my perspectives through the guidance of my professors and the experiences of my fellow graduate students.
More importantly, I hope that the knowledge and insights I acquire will eventually find their way into my classroom, allowing me to become a more capable, effective, and compassionate educator.
For me, the purpose of pursuing higher education is not simply to accumulate credentials, but to become better equipped to serve others through the knowledge and abilities we develop.
Learning to Grow Beyond My Own Limitations
As I reflect on Kofi Annan’s words, I find myself particularly drawn to the statement, “Information is liberating.”
I used to think of this primarily in terms of how knowledge empowers individuals and communities by providing access to opportunities, informed decisions, and a better understanding of the world.
But as I begin my graduate school journey, I have come to appreciate another meaning.
Knowledge can also liberate us from the limitations, uncertainties, and self-doubts that prevent us from recognizing our own potential.
There are moments when we hesitate to pursue meaningful opportunities because we are too conscious of what we do not yet know.
We compare our abilities with those of more experienced individuals, question whether we deserve the opportunities before us, and sometimes convince ourselves that we should postpone our ambitions until we feel more prepared.
Yet, if we constantly wait until we know everything, we may never find the courage to begin anything new.
I am learning that growth requires humility—the willingness to acknowledge that there are still things we do not understand, skills we have not mastered, and experiences we have yet to encounter.
Rather than treating these limitations as reasons to stop, I want to see them as opportunities to improve.
I know that graduate school will not always be easy. There will be demanding academic requirements, unfamiliar concepts, research challenges, and moments when balancing my responsibilities as an instructor and graduate student will test my discipline and perseverance.
But I want to embrace these challenges as part of the learning process.
I am not pursuing this degree because I already know enough. I am pursuing it precisely because I recognize how much more there is to learn.
And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful purposes of education: helping us recognize that our present knowledge and abilities do not define the limits of what we can eventually become.
Pursuing Education With a Purpose Beyond Myself
While completing my master’s degree would certainly represent a meaningful personal and professional achievement, I want this journey to become something greater than an accomplishment I can claim for myself.
I hope to use the opportunities and knowledge I gain to make meaningful contributions to the people and communities around me.
For my students, I want to become an educator who can share deeper insights, provide more relevant learning experiences, and help them develop the confidence and competencies they need to succeed in their chosen careers.
For my family, I hope that this journey will allow me to grow into someone who can provide greater support, create better opportunities, and honor the encouragement and sacrifices that have helped me reach this point.
And for the community and society, I hope to contribute in my own way by sharing knowledge, promoting responsible technological development, and helping prepare future professionals who can use their abilities to solve problems and make a positive difference.
I understand that these aspirations will require considerable time, effort, patience, and dedication.
A master’s degree alone will not automatically make me a better educator or a more accomplished professional. What matters is how I apply the knowledge I gain, how I continue developing my character, and how I use my learning to serve others.
This is the kind of growth I hope to pursue throughout my graduate studies.
I want to become more knowledgeable not simply to achieve more for myself, but to have more to offer to the people whose lives I have the privilege of influencing.
The Courage to Begin Before Feeling Ready
If there is one lesson I hope others can take from this experience, it is that self-doubt does not have to determine the direction of our lives.
There will always be opportunities that feel bigger than our present abilities. We may find ourselves questioning whether we are experienced enough, intelligent enough, or prepared enough to pursue them.
But uncertainty is not always a sign that we are on the wrong path. Sometimes, it is simply part of entering a new stage of growth.
We do not need to eliminate every fear before making progress.
We can acknowledge our doubts while still choosing to move forward. We can recognize our weaknesses while working to strengthen them. We can admit that we have much to learn while remaining confident that learning is possible.
As I begin this new chapter, I want to remind myself that courage is not the absence of uncertainty, but the willingness to pursue something meaningful despite it.
And to anyone who has been hesitating to take the next step toward a dream, I hope you give yourself the opportunity to try.
You may not have all the answers today, and the journey ahead may challenge you in ways you never anticipated.
But the person you are today does not have to be the person you remain tomorrow.
Sometimes, all it takes is one courageous decision to begin discovering what you are capable of becoming.
A New Beginning, A Greater Responsibility
As I officially begin my journey as an MSIT graduate student at Bulacan State University, I do so with gratitude, humility, and a renewed sense of purpose.
I am grateful to my family and colleagues for believing in me, to Bulacan State University for the opportunity to pursue graduate education, and to everyone whose encouragement helped me reach this milestone.
I know that earning this degree will require more than enthusiasm or ambition. It will demand consistency, discipline, sacrifices, and the willingness to keep learning even when the process becomes difficult.
But I am choosing to see this journey not simply as another academic undertaking, but as an investment in the person and educator I hope to become.
Once again, I return to the words of Kofi Annan: “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress.”
My hope is that the knowledge I gain throughout this journey will empower me to overcome my limitations, develop greater confidence in my abilities, and discover opportunities for meaningful personal and professional growth.
And if education truly creates the foundation for progress, then I hope that whatever progress I achieve will extend beyond my own accomplishments and contribute to the growth of my students, my family, and the communities I hope to serve.
The true value of education is not measured solely by the degrees we earn, the titles we hold, or the achievements we collect along the way. Its greatest purpose is found in how knowledge transforms us, expands our possibilities, and empowers us to create opportunities for others. We pursue learning not because we already possess all the answers, but because we believe there is always more to discover, more to improve, and more to contribute. May we never allow our uncertainties to become permanent limitations, nor our accomplishments to become reasons to stop growing. Because knowledge becomes most powerful when it is shared, education becomes most meaningful when it serves others, and personal progress becomes most fulfilling when it helps others move forward, too.
Here’s to embracing uncertainty with courage, pursuing knowledge with humility, and turning the dreams we once prayed for into opportunities to inspire and uplift others.
I may not feel completely ready for everything this journey will demand of me, but I am ready to learn, ready to grow, and ready to discover how far this new beginning can take me. 🎓🌱💙
