On February 8, 2024, our team proudly presented our capstone project, “Development of Web-based Community Management Information System for Pandi Resettlement Residences: Basis for the Sustainability of SIM Adopt-a-Barangay Program,” to Soroptimist International of Makati. This achievement is not just a testament to our technical skills but to our dedication to empowering women, uplifting families, and contributing to the growth and sustainability of our community.
The event was held in front of SIM President Visitacion “Bessie” Escalona, where we had the honor of presenting our Community Management Information System (CMIS), which plays a crucial role in supporting the sustainability of the SIM Adopt-a-Barangay Program. This system serves as a part of SIMnovate: Empowering Women to Innovate Through ICT, a collaborative initiative between Soroptimist International Makati and BulSU-CICT. Our team, including Xander Donneille Ballais, Ma Socorro Burabod, Joana Marie DC. Faustino, Ian Latumbo, Clyde Perater, and myself, was tasked with creating this essential platform to enhance the impact of the program. I am immensely grateful to Dr. Josephine R. Bayonito, Mr. Eddinel B. Valentino, Ms. Jane Kristine G. Suarez, and all the leaders of the SIMnovate CICT Extension Program Team for their guidance and mentorship. Special thanks to our Capstone Adviser, Dr. Bayonito, and the panel members for their invaluable feedback and encouragement that helped us perfect our project.
“True innovation isn’t just about creating new technologies; it’s about using those technologies to better lives, uplift communities, and spark positive change.”
This project has not only been a challenge but a lesson in collaboration, innovation, and commitment. It taught me the power of technology as a tool for social change—how it can be used to address real-world issues and bring about sustainable improvements. By contributing to the SIM Adopt-a-Barangay Program, I now see how technology can drive both empowerment and transformation in communities.
The experience has been a turning point in my personal journey, helping me grow not just as a student but as an advocate for technology-driven solutions that can create a meaningful impact in society. It inspires me to continue pushing boundaries and encourages others to use their skills for the greater good, to not only dream but to make those dreams a reality.
As we move forward, I believe this project is a reminder of the power of collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision. It’s proof that when we come together with a purpose—be it for empowerment or social change—we are capable of accomplishing great things. Together, we can create a world where technology isn’t just an industry but a force for good. Let’s keep rising, innovating, and transforming communities, one project at a time.
